Logic 101 Course in August

Alongside the launch of the new Witz Training Centre in Vancouver (in Yaletown), I will be teaching the very first course to be offered at the new training centre – Logic 101: Introduction to Logic Express 9 and Logic Pro 9.

This class introduces students to the primary feature set and basic user interface of Logic Express and Logic Pro, and is designed for those who want to learn music production and composition using Logic Pro or Logic Express and who prefer hands-on and interactive instruction to best explore its functionality.

New Witz Apple Certified Training Website Launched!

As a recent addition to the Witz Training team, I wanted to share some important Witz news with you!

We are proud to be launching our newly redesigned site. Many months in the making, we have done a complete overhaul of our website so that finding information on the courses you’re interested in is much, much easier.

On the homepage, you’ll find our sidebar which lists upcoming courses categorized by type. Clicking on a course reveals more information and provides links to more information and the registration page for that date. Above this are handy links to the various ways you can follow us, our monthly newsletter, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and RSS.

You’ll also notice a big graphical banner showing the latest news, promotions and generally cool stuff we want to highlight. Below that are the most recent news stories where we’ll post announcements when we publish new course schedules, highlight reseller news, Genius tips, Case studies and Showcase articles.

The courses section has changed in a big way to re-organize all the new courses we’ve added to our lineup over the last few years. Find courses underneath Pro apps, IT, custom, and the brand new bundles section.

The calendar page has been revamped to support multiple locations. Clicking on either the Toronto or Vancouver buttons will filter the calendar to show only events at that location. You may also see other locations show up here from time to time as we do custom on-site training at our various partners around Canada and the US.

Finally, the registration page has been revamped to allow companies to sign up multiple employees at once as well as provide support for registering for a bundle, giving you options for selecting which dates you’d like to attend for each part of the bundle.

Luis joins Witz Apple Certified Training!

Several months in the making, the details are now complete! I have joined forces with Witz Apple Certified Training, in the capacity of Head Trainer for the West Coast. I will be in charge of business development, reseller relations, as well as managing the new training centre (which doubles as the new office for Monkey Consulting) for the delivery of Apple Certified training courses.

I’m quite excited to expand my activities to include Apple Certification training, as I have long been a strong believer in the power of education, and the growth that such training can provide.

Remote Support Billing Method Change

As people grow increasingly “connected”, a lot of my clients now communicate almost exclusively by e-mail. In fact, I’d venture to say that 30-40% of my work is done remotely, by e-mail, or on the phone.

While the benefits of working remotely are immediately evident (less gas, less time spent on the road, easier on the environment), I am increasingly taxed by smaller requests that could’ve been resolved by a simple google search, or checking an application’s help menu. I would often not bill for many 1-2 minute things, simply because they went by so quickly. For this reason, I am adjusting the way I bill for remote assistance.

Until now, I have always billed by the minute for remote support, which includes email, phone, and remote assistance. With the new billing method, remote support billing will be done in units of 6 minutes (1/10th of an hour). I will now be able to be more thorough with electronic responses, and I encourage them, as e-mail correspondence doubles as documentation when problems can be resolved with a few instructions.

This new billing method is now in effect.

A car drove into one of my client’s stores. Literally. The computer desk station was missed by inches, but could’ve been completely destroyed, and all data could’ve been lost.
